Workshops, meetings, tastings, music, games and a farmers’ market

From 7 to 10 May in Rovereto IL CANTO DELLA TERRA

From 7 to 10 May 2026 in Rovereto, Il Canto della Terra | Song of the Earth returns, the festival organised by Tra le Rocce e il Cielo, which interweaves environmental sustainability, climate crisis and everyday practices, building a concrete dialogue between science, art and civic engagement.

At the heart of the 2026 edition, entitled La stazione del cibo, is the theme of food as a key to reading the contemporary world, understood as a cultural practice, social relationship and political gesture. Through scientific and artistic workshops for adults and children, meetings, tastings, music, games, convivial moments and a farmers’ market, the festival explores the link between production, consumption and sustainability, bringing scientific knowledge and everyday know-how into dialogue.

Thursday 7 May opens with the photographic gaze of Marco Angheben with the exhibition I custodi del bosco, hosted at Libreria Giunti, an intense narrative that renders the silent and powerful presence of natural elements, between fragility and resistance. In the same afternoon and in the days that follow, the Oratorio Rosmini becomes the beating heart of the festival, hosting activities that interweave education, research and participation.

The dialogue on sustainability runs through agricultural practices with Coltivare il futuro, dialogues on sustainable viticulture curated by Lumen Slow Journalism, which brings together the experience of Simone Benetti (Fondazione Famiglia Materna), Marco Grigolli and Marco Bezzi of the Consorzio Vignaioli del Trentino on the theme of sustainable viticulture on 7 May at 6 pm. Likewise, the relationship between food and social transformations emerges in the talk Il gusto dell’incontro. Local Products, migrations and new food cultures in a changing Trentino moderated by Viola Ducati, with contributions from Amerigo Ambrosi and Gaia Maronilli, together with the experiences of the Trentino biodistricts and ATAS, offering a vivid portrait of a territory in evolution on 8 May at 6 pm.

Within the festival, on Saturday afternoon at the oratory, La Piazza dei Saperi e dei Sapori takes shape, a lively and informal space curated by Michela Luise where the public can come into direct contact with the territory through those who cultivate, study and transform it. Here the experience moves from listening to practice: from the Sportello Ortista, where Romana from Vivaio Zaffoni shares practical advice for caring for home vegetable gardens, to the workshop Strange but true! by Associazione NetTARE, which guides participants to discover production cycles and seasonality in an accessible and engaging way.

Alongside the moments of reflection, the festival offers direct and engaging experiences: from the scientific and sensory workshops by FOOD FARM 4.0, such as From Milk to Cheese to see how cheese is made, or James Test Hub for jam tasting, through to the food and intercultural education pathways with the migrant women involved in ATAS projects, who will also bring to life a shared dinner or the meeting on food and emotions by Giorgia Arlanch or the pathway, Fermenti Meticci led by Giacomo Lorandi, a tasting that tells how the encounter between different cultures and techniques can transform food into a fertile ground of experimentation and evolving identity.

The participatory dimension extends also to artistic practices, such as the workshop on botanical drawing curated by Ateirami Studio, and to activities for families and children, including the collective mural OrtArt by We-Ink. The festival programme also makes room for play as a tool for connection, learning and lightness. From the collective challenge of Quiz & Taste Night, where questions, tastings and creative challenges transform food into a shared ludic experience, to Stracot, the team game inspired by the world of cooking and curated by Ludimus, in which collaboration and speed become fundamental ingredients. Alongside these are more immersive and narrative activities such as Try to be a bee, proposed by Malga Riondera, which through role play brings adults and children closer to the life of bees, and the experiences spread across the spaces of the social caravan Giacomella by Studio Tangram, where free play becomes an occasion for encounter between generations.

The festival also opens to the territory and the landscape, with immersive experiences such as Herbs on the plate, which combines foraging in Trambileno, cooking and knowledge of wild plants, and the Lupus in fabula excursion in Vallarsa, proposed by SAT Vallarsa, designed to bring even the youngest closer to nature.

The sound dimension accompanies the festival days, crossing different languages and moods. From the Danger Kiki DJ set, curated by Federico Cotroneo, to the narrative journey Il gusto per la musica by Giuliano Lott, through to the concert by Superwave, an international duo formed by Tasos Sotiriou and Leonidas Danezos, which blends traditional instruments and electronic sounds in an immersive and contemporary experience.

Strengthening the educational and participatory vocation of the festival is the collaboration with the Festival Scienza Under 18 Trentino, which on the mornings of 7 and 8 May will bring to the Oratorio Rosmini students as protagonists of experiments and scientific activities, transforming knowledge into a shared and accessible experience.

Il Canto della Terra, organised by Tra le Rocce e il Cielo, is realised thanks to the support of the S4T Bando – Station for Transformation/Stazione Trasformazione of the Comune di Rovereto, Provincia Autonoma di Trento, Regione Trentino Alto Adige, with the contribution of Fondazione Caritro, Dolomiti Energia, Keim, and Banca per il Trentino. It is born and grows thanks to a wide and articulated network of collaborations.

More than an event, Il Canto della Terra takes shape as an invitation: to stop, listen, share and act. An opportunity to rediscover the bond between people, environment and community, and to imagine together new forms of balance.
