SUSTAINABLE CREATIONS, an exhibition of works by Dutch artists that unites art and sustainability opens on September 28th at the Rovereto Civic Library, launching the preview events for the IL CANTO DELLA TERRA | SONG OF THE EARTH festival, dedicated to climate change and sustainability.

Rovereto is turning green. From September 28th to October 20th, the multimedia room of the G. Tartarotti Civic Library will host SUSTAINABLE CREATIONS, an exhibition that merges art and sustainability.

It is curated by Tra le Rocce e il Cielo, the association that has organized the homonymous festival in Vallarsa for seven editions. A review that has dealt with topics such as local history, sustainable economy, Alpine languages, natural landscapes, art, mountain economy, and ecology. Over time, the association has expanded its range of action, paying more and more attention to environmental issues and climate change. And it is precisely in this perspective that for months it has been working to give life to the new festival IL CANTO DELLA TERRA | SONG OF THE EARTH, dedicated to climate change and sustainability.

“Our goal is to give voice to all parts of society that are committed to mitigation, adaptation and the profound transformation that our society and our economy need to protect our common home: planet Earth,” explains Fiorenza Aste, president of the association.

The opening of the festival, which will take place in Rovereto in October, will be inaugurated on September 28th, 2024, at 5:30 PM in the Multimedia Room of the Civic Library Tartarotti of Rovereto, at 43 Corso Bettini, with the exhibition SUSTAINABLE CREATIONS: ecological art from the Netherlands.

A group of Dutch artists presents a collection of works that invite reflection on our relationship with the planet. Canvases and paper, created with ecological and certified materials, become the surfaces on which a diverse and powerful artistic expression comes to life.

The canvases, in particular, are made with photocatalytic eco-paints, entirely natural, organic, and sustainable, certified by Keim. This choice not only guarantees high artistic quality but also actively contributes to environmental protection.

Subjects range from nature, with landscapes and details that seem to almost detach from the canvas, to more abstract and conceptual representations. A common denominator links all the works: a deep respect for nature and an urgent need to act to protect it.

The curator of the exhibition, Rayden Elodie, a Dutch artist also known as SOB-atomik in the world of visual arts and Mr. Atom in music production, is also the main artist on display, with works on canvas made with Keim paints and numerous prints on certified ecological paper. From a young age, he has shown a deep passion for artistic exploration, ranging freely from comics to wall art, from photography to canvas art, from dance to hip hop music production.

Rayden introduces us to the vibrant Dutch creative scene, proposing the works of some interesting artists: YorkOne, whose artistic work is rooted in the graffiti movement of the 1980s, intrigues us with his “camouflage” technique, which consists of hiding and revealing letters to involve viewers in the game of deciphering the hidden message.

Sket185 combines a love of drawing with a passion for technology; a student of photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, he later ventured into wall art, creating versatile graffiti art projects and canvas creations.

Alex Cattoi is an Italian-Dutch artist who finds his inspiration in the forms of nature, the earth, the imaginary connected to ancient civilizations and vanished worlds, experimenting with various artistic techniques and types of materials. A fundamental theme in his work is the contact between man and nature, increasingly fragile due to our loss of consciousness and lack of respect for our origins.

Jerome Bech, initially influenced by the experimental COBRA group, has developed his own extremely eclectic style, incorporating everyday objects into his works.

Finally, G. Moret, a versatile artist born from punk culture, proposes an introduction to his work through a selection of mixed media works on handmade paper.

Through colors and forms, Dutch artists invite us to reflect on our impact on the environment and to imagine a more sustainable future. SUSTAINABLE CREATIONS is more than just an exhibition: it’s an artistic manifesto that reminds us of the importance of taking care of our planet.

For this reason, the choice to entrust the creation of the canvases to eco-friendly paints made by Keim is even more significant: the deeply natural philosophy of this company, founded over 140 years ago in Germany as a producer of paints for art and later developed into a company for wall paints, has led it to obtain the Cradle to Cradle certification, the most advanced certification in the world for the creation of sustainable products. Cradle to Cradle awards companies that achieve the highest results in terms of the use of healthy raw materials, material recycling, the use of renewable energy, careful water consumption management, and socially responsible production.

Keim photocatalytic wall paints also have some extraordinary qualities: in addition to being entirely produced with natural materials (mineral oxide pigments and a binder with pure potassium liquid silicate), they use photocatalysis to neutralize pollution. The titanium dioxide contained in the paints converts harmful organic compounds in the air into harmless nitrates. This applies to both chemical compounds from industrial and road pollution, as well as molds and even bacteria. The air surrounding a wall painted with Keim photocatalytic paints is therefore much purer and healthier than “normal” city air.

The exhibition, curated by Tra le Rocce e il Cielo as part of the IL CANTO DELLA TERRA | SONG OF THE EARTH festival, will be open from September 28th to October 20th at the Library in Corso Bettini, Rovereto, from Monday to Saturday from 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM, and on Sunday from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

The IL CANTO DELLA TERRA | SONG OF THE EARTH festival is sustainable and certified ECOEVENTI Trentino. For this reason, even the opening refreshment will be prepared according to the rigorous guidelines of the brand: no plastic, only tap water and washable dishes made of natural materials. The variety of food offered will also prioritize vegetarian choices and short supply chains, preferably from Trentino. Separate waste collection will be organized, and food waste will be avoided.
We also invite participants to reach us with sustainable means, using bicycles, car sharing, or public transport.
