SONG OF THE EARTH PRESS RELEASE OCTOBER 4 2025

Conferences, shows, documentaries, talks, books, workshops, and exhibitions to reflect on climate change

From October 8 to 12 in Rovereto IL CANTO DELLA TERRA (The Song of the Earth)

From October 8 to 12, 2025, Rovereto will host a new edition of Il Canto della Terra, the festival that combines science, art, and civic engagement to tackle the challenges of climate crisis and sustainability together. For five days, the city will be transformed into a widespread laboratory of ideas, experiences, and practices, bringing together citizens, students, associations, and institutions in conferences, meetings, shows, workshops, exhibitions, and book presentations, all free of charge but for which registration is recommended.

The preview, scheduled for Saturday, October 4, will be an excursion on Mount Zugna organized by the Tra le Rocce e il Cielo association with SAT Vallarsa and anthropologist Marta Villa: a group walk to observe how climate change is already transforming landscapes, ecosystems, and mountain communities.

Evening shows

The festival comes alive each evening with events that blend cinema, theatre, and collective reflection.

On Friday, October 10, the screening of Sui sentieri by Michele Trentini (Smart Lab, 9 p.m.) will take the audience on a journey through the different ways of experiencing the mountains.

On Saturday, October 11, the show Fango by Marco Cortesi and Mara Moschini will be performed, intensely recounting the tragedy of the floods in Emilia Romagna and the power of solidarity (Mart conference room, 9 p.m.).

Sunday, October 12, at the Mart, the closing talk with science communicator Alessandra Viola will offer an original perspective on plant rights as a tool to imagine a new relationship between humans and nature (Mart Conference Room, 9 PM).

Conferences and Discussions

Conferences and round tables form the scientific heart of the festival.
On Friday, October 10 at the Iprase headquarters, experts will discuss the decarbonization of cities and policies to reduce energy consumption, regenerate buildings, and promote renewable communities (Decarbonizing Cities, 9:30 AM–12 PM). In the afternoon, the focus will shift to mountain areas with the event Ecological Crisis and Highlands (2:30 PM–5:30 PM), a conference dedicated to Alpine biodiversity, water resources, and new practices for mountain management.

On Saturday, October 11, the conversation will expand to themes of artificial intelligence with the day titled Planetary Thought. At the Museum of Science and Archaeology (10 AM–1 PM / 2 PM–5 PM), discussions will revolve around the relationship between AI and climate change—from cloud consumption to digital energy communities, and AI applications for climate resilience. Practical workshops will also be held, including one on Earth Digital Twins developed by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, and a round table with artists exploring the relationship between art and artificial intelligence.

Books and Documentaries
The dialogue will be enriched by book presentations at Giunti Bookstore — L’uomo che resta by Marco Niro (Saturday, October 11, 6 PM) and Sottocorteccia by Pietro Lacasella and Luigi Torreggiani (Sunday, October 12, 6 PM), a journey through Alpine forests reflecting on the future of mountain ecosystems — and documentary screenings at Iprase: Lìmit 1500 (Friday, October 10, 5:30 PM) and Oecologicus (Sunday, October 12, 4:30 PM), focused on a Dutch ecovillage experimenting with sustainable lifestyles.

Workshops and Participatory Activities
The festival is also a large educational and interactive space.
On Wednesday, October 8, high school students will take part in a climate negotiation role-play simulating a UN climate conference, Inside the Climate Negotiation, using the En-ROADS model.
On Sunday, October 12, Rovereto will become an open workshop with the Plastic Free Ride Bike Ride (from 10 AM) and several workshops at Iprase.
For adults: activities to calculate your ecological footprint (10 AM), simulate a COP climate summit to develop crisis strategies (3 PM), and discover scientific experiments on glaciers thanks to the Liceo Filzi project.
For children: a workshop to tell the story of the Earth through song and movement (10 AM) and another to turn recycling into artistic play (3–6 PM).

Exhibitions and Public Art
Art becomes a lens through which to observe sustainability.
On Thursday, October 9 at the Tartarotti Civic Library, the exhibition Elemental Reflections by Alex Cattoi will open, accompanied by a digital installation by Indiara Di Benedetto, offering a unique perspective on the relationship between creativity and sustainability, and inviting reflection on the fragile balance between humans and nature.
During the festival, the collective mural Novum Initium will take shape — a collective mural artwork painted with Keim photocatalytic paints that absorb pollutants, on the facade of the former Tobacco Factory, symbolizing participation and urban regeneration.
On Saturday, October 11 at Giunti Bookstore, the Sustainable Creations window display will be inaugurated, featuring works by Dutch artists combining aesthetics and sustainable practices.
